Journal Entry---------
DeviantART's new "fair exposure" system/semi new system (Apparently there have been some changes?) has sparked oodles and oodles of classic DA drama on the today page.
Yes, I am making a post regarding this. It is a pretty significant change on DA, after all and I find it interestesting - as well as other people's opinions on the matter.
What do you guys think about the new system? Are you happy that new artwork from lesser popular categories such as poetry will have a greater chance to get on the front page instead of say...digital paintings? Are you happy that the same popular fan artists won't wind up there? Or would you rather DA go back to the original system where the most popular work indeed goes up in the popular section as the name "popular" suggests? Maybe you just don't give a crap? Do you have no idea what I am talking abooooout?! D:
If you don't, and are interested and reading about the "fair exposure" system, click this link:
[link]Also, the today page is full of amusing posts. A petition has been started, as well - since a LOT of people despise this new system, apparently.
To be honest, I have customized my front page so I don't usually see he default front page. (Except for DDs, of course - which I honestly have no beef with.)
Also, the front page doesn't look THAT bad. Sure, there are a couple things like a desktop screen shot and a couple of deviations I won't call out, but I see a lot of lovely deviations up there, too. I don't think think it's as bad as a lot of people say it is. It's not like a total explosion of desktop screen shots and stolen stick men humping the text "your mom" have filled up the front page. (Although I kind of did have a "wtf" moment when I saw that.)
I guess I don't really mind this new system because like I said, I customized my front page long ago and will continue to keep it customized. I remember seeing a lot of people complaining about how the same old stuff popped up on the front page with the old system, anyway.

By the way, who

s desktop screen shots? o_o
Edit: When I updated this journal I was looking at the new system simply as a viewer, really. There have been many good points made by those against the system for the artists who are trying to get exposed on DA.

You can't forget that people could exploit the system by purposefully categorizing deviations. D:
Eh...
I think both systems have their problems. At the same time I think it's good that the new system could expose new artists that usually don't get the time of day, but it also has it's many drawbacks. However, with the old system, the same stuff winds up on the front page - usually the same popular artists. Then there isn't much exposure to ne lesser known artists (except in the RARE event where all these popular artists don't post in their category and someone sneaks in as Budgie says. But..still.)
Of course, that doesn't really matter if you customize your feeds.
Also, regarding your last comment, I'm sure many people just don't like the same artists on the front page, but I continuously saw (and still see comments referring back to it) comments from users who state that they hate the fact that "crappy fan art" (Not my own words) and anime makes the front page so much. So, I think a lot of people still had a problem with the content that made the front page every day - and the fact that it was by the same deviants.
I wonder what the future holds for deviantART...
If DA goes back to the old system, I wouldn't really care. I was never really concerned about the content of the front page before.

I don't really care if dA switches back to the old system either. Either way, the little people are getting pushed lower while the populars keep getting pushed up. THIS CALLS FOR A BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION
